Basically I refused delivery and told them to get stuffed. I spoke to the shipper who said UPS was going to toss the parcel in the trash if he didn't pay to take it back. We agreed that I would pay the $40 UPS fee to save the minis from the garbage and we would call it even.
UPS responded with a couple of emails telling me I would have to be at home during work hours to pay for the privilege of them delivering the parcel. I replied that no - we were doing them the favour of giving them our business, the duty on minis is 0% so if they wanted their $40, they would deliver to my residence after 4 p.m. with 24 hours notice so I could leave work early.
UPS responded that since the shipper and I obviously didn't understand UPS terms they would graciously waive the customs fee. I went to the depot the next day to get the parcel 0$ paid - end of game. I did get a rather dirty look from another customer who was being held over a barrel for the full rate.

Virtual high five to you Pat!
wow...
I'll have to remember that for the next time someone decides to "upgrade" my delivery to UPS!
I stay away from UPS for the same problem Pat just had.... From the States I make sure they use USPS. I get my orders faster that way then with UPS...
